We all know that Lady GaGa is the bomb, and right now, she’s huge. But it recently hit home (for this fan especially) what an impact Lady GaGa has made on the music scene. Her album The Fame Monster was cited by The Examiner as the most important album of the decade. Besides the mega millions she has sold, Lady GaGa’s most notably has opened the doors, according to The Examiner for women to break out in the industry. Even Madonna, for all her success, couldn’t manage to impact the industry the way Lady GaGa has and made acceptance of musical expression, creativity and originality tantamount. World domination
Let’s face it, Madonna came out and the world loved her. But when Lady GaGa tried to break into the industry she found it difficult. Relegated to the sidelines and indie circles, it was not easy for Lady GaGa to breakout. She strongly felt that nobody would understand what she was trying to do. That is until Akon gave her the push she needed and backed her move to the frontlines of the music industry.
Essentially, Lady GaGa has broken the mold. Female singers, and to a certain degree, any singer doesn’t have to come neatly packaged into a specific genre or marketed to fit the perception of what music execs consider commercially viable.
For that Lady GaGa has to be thanked and lauded. Maybe now, we can see the emergence of female artistes who don’t fit into any conventional constrains making their mark on the industry and be accepted for it. You could say this is Girl Power for the New Age.
