Sorry....blame it on me
I knew this would be coming….A born Muslim sponsored by Chivas, a liquor company for a show in Malaysia? No way. A beach party? That’s a double whammy. What about his controversial stage antics, which included “thumping” a 14-year-old girl on stage, not to mention throwing some others off stage?
As I was worrying about my concert promoter friends who could be in for some serious trouble after they were summoned for a private meeting with the powers that be in the Ministry of Information, Communication, Arts and Culture for organizing Akon Freedom Beach Concert, the American R&B star really made my day – Akon has asked for his concert here, scheduled on 2 July at the Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach, to be postponed to 24 Oct.
The reason? Akon has an urgent family matter to attend to. It’s major and emotionally disturbing him, I must say. But I will leave it to Akon himself to explain.
With more time to work on the concert, I hope my show promoter friends will be able to get a better sponsor and organize a clean-yet-fun beach party. Well, they have promised me they will.
