Start Ta Ta Talking Bout, Blah Blah Blah

If there’s one movie you must watch on the big screen this year, it has got to be James Cameron’s Avatar, which has been in the making for more than 10 years. No, I’m not saying that the film will be that good. No, I can’t say that from the mere 16-minute 3-D preview I watched last Saturday. But 16 minutes was enough to convince me that the visuals were stunning to say the least. (Yeah, I know some of you would have watched the trailer online, but man, watching it on 3-D is something else!) This isn’t surprising since James Cameron is known to push the envelope when it comes to special effects, and this is his highly anticipated movie since 1997’s Titanic, the highest grossing film of all time. The director intended for Avatar to bring fans back to the cinema (yes, listen up all you who watch on DVD and online!).

I just hope that when the film is released in December, there will be more thrills than the ones I watched in the 16-minute preview. I sure hope the best scenes in the film are not the ones only in the preview. I do get disappointed a lot when I watch movies these days and find out that the best scenes were just the ones in the trailer!

Now, here’s the big reveal on what Avatar is about. Avatar is the story of an ex-Marine (Sam Worthington, that Aussie dude who stole the thunder from Christian Bale in Terminator Salvation) who finds himself thrust into hostilities on an alien planet filled with exotic life forms. As an Avatar -- a human mind in an alien body -- he finds himself torn between two worlds, in a desperate fight for his own survival and that of the indigenous people.

Forget about the story. Just the visuals alone are worth the price of the ticket. Avatar will be released in December.
