Janet, surprised everyone when she showed up on stage to thank celebrities, fans and friends for their support and love.
You must have heard about the fitting tribute Hollywood celebs gave Michael Jackson at the 2009 BET Awards recently, haven’t you?
Well, if you’ve been scouring YouTube for excerpts of the show, you can stop because MTV Asia Networks announced yesterday that they will be broadcasting the awards show for the first time on Sunday, 5 July at 4pm on Astro channel 713.
The BET awards are a celebration of the achievements of African Americans in music, sports and other fields of entertainment, so it was a befitting place to hold the tribute for one of the most popular artistes the world has ever known.
Following the sad news of Michael’s death, the show was completely revamped to center its focus on commemorating the celebrated performer. Hosted by the dynamic Jamie Foxx, it was a non-stop standing ovation for Michael Jackson and his legendary career. A legion of A-list stars paid tribute to the King of Pop with special performances, emotional testimonials about what Jackson meant to them, and a beautiful, colorful set featuring images and montages of the star.

Held at Los Angeles’ historic Shrine Auditorium, the show aired live in the United States on Sunday, 28 June with exhilarating live performances by Jay-Z, Kanye West, Beyonce, Maxwell, Ne-Yo, Mary Mary, Fabolous, Young Jeezy and Soulja Boy. There were also appearances by Queen Latifah, Taraji P. Henson, Idris Elba, Sherri Shepherd, Paula Patton, The O'Jays, Alicia Keys, Wyclef Jean and a very special appearance by Michael’s sister, Janet, who spoke on behalf of the Jackson family to thank all of Michael’s fans for their support during the family’s difficult time.
If you miss the show tomorrow afternoon, you can catch it again at midnight, Monday at 7.30pm, Tuesday at 11pm, Friday at 9pm, Saturday at 2pm and Sunday, 12 July at 9pm. So there’s really no excuse for missing this celebration of Michael’s life and contribution to music.
